450 students graduate from Manipal University

Over 450 students from Manipal University Dubai Campus received their degrees at the fourth annual convocation ceremony held at the Zabeel Hall in World Trade Centre on Saturday.

Consul-General of India Sanjay Verma and Dr Vinod Bhatt, pro-vice-chancellor, Manipal University conferred the degrees on the graduating students on behalf of the chancellor.

Graduating students received their respective undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the fields of Media and Communications, Fashion Design and Technology, Management Studies, Information Technology, Interior Design, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.

“Open your minds to all cultures but, in the process, do not forget your own roots that make you special,” said Dr B. Ramjee, director, Manipal University Dubai Campus, as he advised students to sensitise their minds to multicultural forces that shape today’s fast-changing society.

Anand Sudarshan, managing director and chief executive officer, Manipal Education, called on the students to embrace change and transform society as they leave the realms of a university to take up real-life challenges.

Special awards were presented to students for Academic Performance and Outstanding Contribution to their respective departments. Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) also presented the ‘DIAC Special Award of Excellence’ to three students from the university.

Sanjay Verma congratulated the graduating students while reminding them of their social responsibility to serve the region, society and nation as a whole to their best of their ability and learning.

Senior officials from Manipal University thanked DIAC officials as being a “valuable business partner” for its contribution to excellence in international education and fostering institutes of all nationalities on its sprawling campus.

Manipal University Dubai Campus is one of the leading universities offering industry specific courses in Dubai International Academic City. From its humble beginning in Dubai Knowledge Village in September 2003, it has emerged as one the leaders in imparting quality higher education in the United Arab Emirates. The university is currently building a new campus for its students in DIAC.
