The clearance for a vaccine to be administered in cases of emergency is an initial step in creating a wall to confine the Covid-19 virus. It has been taken with a great deal of consideration and a lot of thought. Into the mix would have been the data from trials as well as information about adverse reactions of which so far there have been none. This is a vital cornerstone in the decision because without that comfort zone there would have been no move towards opening it - even in a guarded fashion would have been untenable.
Indeed the compression of the time between creating an antidote and being certain of its efficacy and its adverse reactions can sometimes be a couple of decades. That is why the UAE has shown a progressive attitude but one tempered by restraint and caution and nowhere near meant for the public. While the medical fraternity might well have been inundated with queries following the announcement, it is mandatory to caution people that this is only a step in the right direction and meant specifically for those engaged in high-risk occupations where the exposure to the virus is exceptionally high. The decision to carefully allow this defense is predicated to the successful results of the Phase III testing procedures but it is also a very limited option that the authorities will keep a very close watch on to ensure as much of a failsafe position as possible. Hopefully, there will be no fallout and we will move a step closer to ridding the world of this scourge.
