KT edit: Impeach Trump, but only with clinching evidence

He has no use for it and has made his displeasure known to those who pursue the virtue.

US President Donald Trump has perpetrated one of the most serious political crimes in history. That's the summary of the House Intelligence Committee report into the president's alleged dealings with Ukraine in which he is alleged to have put pressure on the government there to probe Joe Biden's son's alleged corruption in that country. This was in exchange for $400 million in US military hardware to protect it from Russia's alleged expansionist zeal. Note the word 'alleged' that has been used liberally in these sentences. But that is the truth. There is no conclusive evidence to impeach the president and force him out of office at the moment. But these are early days in the impeachment process that must still make it past the Senate where the Republicans wield a majority. Trump, for his part, has little time for the truth. He has no use for it and has made his displeasure known to those who pursue the virtue.

Some sections of the media that cater to segments of the population based on their interests and ideological and political leanings tell us that this is it, the turning point of this presidency which will go downhill from now on. This is the defining moment and the president will now be out 11 months before his term ends, which is a premature assessment. Premature because Trump's party has not turned against him. At the moment, his is a one-man show for 2020. The Democrats are yet to get their act together and present a consensus candidate to take on Trump. They are draining each other out which makes it easy for the president when he takes on the eventual Democratic winner for the campaign next year.

A split in GOP ranks against Trump would be ideal but that's asking for too much for a party that has been remodelled in Trump's image. In the eighties, there was Reaganism which changed America and the free world. Today, we have Trumpism that is reneging on that promise but conservative America is loving it. The Republicans have lost their voice to Trump and Democrats are making the wrong noises to an audience that exists merely for its rabid hatred of the president while spouting liberal la-la-isms. It's an unhappy situation for the silent free-thinking and open-minded voting masses. The lack of choices is stark. At least they have a known enemy to vote against. The only consolation in America's murky democracy defined by Trumpism.
