Excitement is building up in the UAE as cricketers have started arriving for the next edition of the Indian Premier League. Bio-bubbles are being set up and attention is being paid to various aspects that should make this tournament a success at a time when the sporting calendar has been ravaged by the pandemic.
There's no word as yet on whether fans will be allowed to cheer for their teams at the stadium or not, but the sporting event is already creating a buzz. It is an achievement for the world of sports and also a nod to the UAE that has spared no efforts to contain the spread of the virus and allowed a sense of normalcy to return to the lives of residents fairly quickly.
Dubai is open for tourists, and businesses across industries are bouncing back to life. The UAE airlines are bringing back more routes to their network and have started operating at 40-50 per cent passenger capacity, which exudes optimism. Tourism, retail, hospitality - sectors that were hit the hardest - are gathering strength too. The IPL would give a further boost to these sectors and contribute Dh80-90 million to the overall economy. It is a win-win for all.
