Dubai records 29 road accidents in 9 hours due to fog

Dubai - Motorists in Abu Dhabi were also reminded to stick to the 80kmph speed limit during the foggy weather.

Twenty-nine traffic accidents were reported in Dubai from Tuesday midnight until 9am as fog blanketed several parts of the country.
Col Jumaa bin Suwaidan, acting director of the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police, urged motorists to keep a safe distance between cars and slow down.
"Allow extra time for your journey and check your planned route. It's also advisable to wait for the fog to clear out before driving out," Col bin Suwaidan said.
Motorists in Abu Dhabi were also reminded to stick to the 80kmph speed limit during the foggy weather. The Abu Dhabi Police on Tuesday told drivers that the lower speed limit applies when visibility is reduced to less than 2,000m. Visibility is a measure of distance at which an object or light could be clearly seen.
When fog is encountered, low-beam lights should be switched on and overtaking shoud be avoided, police said.
Weather officials have explained that over the next few days, fog is expected in certain areas of the country as humidity levels rise and summer temperatures gradually drop. Summer officially ended on Monday and autumn started on Tuesday, the official said. The winter season in the UAE is set to begin on December 21.
"Minimum and maximum temperatures will gradually decrease over the coming days. Fog is expected in areas between Abu Dhabi and Dubai and in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, during early morning hours from Tuesday to Saturday," said Dr Ahmed Habib from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
