GET READY BECAUSE things are about to get 'loco'. The Dubai Latin Fest is returning to Media City on April 14 and 15, chock full of sensual South American sensations, Hispanic heat and irresistible Iberian allure. Whether you crave Latin dance, food, music or entertainment, there is something for everyone over the two days.
One of the greatest highlights will no doubt be a performance by two-time Latin Grammy winner and movie actress Rosario Flores. Daughter of renowned Spanish musicians Antonio Gonzalez and Lola Flores, Rosario began her career in the early '90s and is predominantly known for her 2002 and 2004 albums Muchas Flores and De Mil Colores.
In 2002 she was a lead role in the Almodóvar film Hable Con Ella.
We spoke to Rosario about coming to the Latin Fest.

How does it feel to be performing in Dubai?
I am very excited. I have never been to The UAE. It is like a dream! I never thought about the opportunity to perform in this part of the world! When I was invited to Dubai Latin Fest I was speechless for five minutes!
How do you find Spanish music is received outside Spanish speaking countries?
Music has no borders, nor does it have languages, I have people writing to me from all over the world. Countries I hardly know and they listen to my music, it's amazing! Especially nowadays, with Internet you can get access to everything. And that is helping the Spanish Music Industry to extend its frontiers everywhere.

For those that haven't heard it, how do you describe your music? From where do you get your inspiration?
I always say that my music has a gypsy funky style! It is the mix of my flamenco/gypsy roots, and the funky music, soul, blues I used to listen to when I was a young girl.

Which artists do you admire and who in the current charts do you particularly like? Do you know of any Arabic music?
I admire a lot of artists and I listen to music from all languages. I don't know much about Arabic music but I heard some, in the South of Spain we listen to traditional melodies, it has a lot of similarities with flamenco and other Spanish styles.

How did it feel when you won your Latin Grammys? Are awards important to you?
It is always a big pride to have your work recognised. If it comes to worldwide recognitions like the Latin Grammy Awards it is amazing. Nevertheless, awards are not that important to me. I know incredible artists that have won no prize and they are amazing.
Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to go to any gala, and I have been nominated seven times! So, let's hope I got nominated again and being able to attend. That is something I really want to do.

You are from a musical dynasty, did that ever create any pressure on you, or did it provide encouragement?
It is my pride and an honour to be part of my family, more than pressure I have felt responsibility but most of all strength. They are probably the reason why I decided to dedicate my entire career to music and dance. It's something I believe I was born with and I just love it. I am glad to be one of those lucky ones that can work in what they are passionate about!

What advice would you give to someone starting out on their music career today?
Be loyal to yourself and to what you really want to do and achieve. Sing with heart and never ever give up! No matter what!

What have you got planned for the future? When can we expect another album?
I just released my last album, Gloria A Ti, an album inspired by my late mother and in which I retrieve a song written by my late brother, the singer and songwriter Antonio Flores.
