Highlighted by a second-round seven-under-par 65, the 2010 US Open champion finished in a tie for ninth last year to kick start his season on a bright note and ended it with a victory at the OHL Classic in Mexico in November, his first on the PGA Tour since April 2013.
The 39-year-old from Gothenburg, who finished in a tie for third at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship last week, believes it will be fun to play in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic which is so close to his heart, having been a long-time Dubai resident before moving full-time to the United States in 2012.
The longest-running European Tour event in the region, which starts from February 4 to 7, holds special significance for the Northern Irishman, who recorded his first professional win here in 2009 at age 19 years and 273 days.
The tournament begins on the renowned Majlis Course on February 4 and continues until February 7.

Playing his second Omega Dubai Desert Classic, Els, as a 24-year-old, turned the Majlis course into his personal playing ground, shooting a sizzling 61 in the opening round, a course record that stands to this day.
Daily tickets for the four-day main competition, starting on February 4, are priced at Dh 175. A season pass, which provides access all week, including the Pro Am day, is available for Dh 675.
