A worker has been sentenced to six months in jail for molesting a seven-year-old girl while he was in her mother’s apartment to do some household maintenance work.
The Court of First Instance has also ordered that the 25-year-old Bangladeshi be deported after serving his time.
The girl’s mother, a 38-year-old Australian, had rented the apartment in the Marina area in Jebel Ali where the incident occurred last December.
After the man arrived and did some of the work, she could not find her daughter. While looking for her, she saw the worker emerging from the bathroom, followed by her daughter.
The child told her the worker had touched and kissed her inappropriately.
As the enraged woman confronted the worker, he began to apologise and beg her not to inform the police.
When she went down to seek security guards’ help, he ran away. However, other workers called him and talked him into coming back and he was arrested shortly.
