Two Romanian women admitted in court on Sunday that they smoked hashish but claimed it happened outside the UAE.
The two women aged 28 and 25, here on visit visas, and who are facing a drug-use charge, claimed in the Court of First Instance that they smoked hashish before they came to the UAE.
The two accused were arrested in the Jumeirah Palm area on March 9. “We were tipped off that the 28-year-old defendant possessed and consumed drugs,” an anti-narcotics division police lieutenant said.
With a prosecution warrant, the police searched her, but no drugs were found on her.
She led the officers to her flat.
The other accused and another woman were found there. They were taken to the narcotics department for urine tests.
The crime lab report showed that the urine samples taken from the defendants contained traces of hashish. The third woman was not charged in the case as her urine sample test was negative for drugs.
The officer added that the accused admitted in the investigation they consumed hashish in Dubai and that a Jordanian man gave it to them.
The Public Prosecution said in its remarks that one of the accused entered the country on February 7 and her co-defendant arrived on February 26 while their arrest took place on March 9.
