Woman rescued after 3-hour suicide threat stand-off

A Saudi Arabian woman has been rescued from the top of a 27-storeyed Sharjah hotel, from where she threatened to jump down and commit suicide.

The woman, believed to be 22-years-old, was involved in a three-hour stand-off, which started at 11am on Saturday.

It is understood she is suffering from depression.

The woman was seen by residents in nearby buildings, who informed the police. All available emergency services rushed to the scene, and a team of police negotiators made their way to the woman.

After three hours, officers were able to grab the woman and bring her down to safety. The woman has been transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital, where she is receiving treatment. -afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
