An Ethiopian man is battling for life at Rashid Hospital after he was allegedly stabbed by his wife inside the family's residence in Hamriya, near Abu Hail post office, on Saturday.
According to Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation, the police received information about the incident and rushed to the site. They found the 46-year-old man, identified as Othman A., critically injured of stab wounds in his chest and face. He was rushed to the hospital and his wife, 37-year-old Madina, has been taken into custody, said the official.
The couple was living in a room in a villa for past two years, said Maj.-Gen. Al Mansouri. He said the woman was screaming and behaving hysterically. The police took her into custody and shifted her to the Muraqqabat police station. He added that the police couldn't interrogate the woman because of her mental status.
An eye witness told Khaleej Times that he heard people screaming and crowding near the villa, where the victim and his wife were living. When he entered the room, he found the man in a pool of blood with stab wounds and the woman standing there with a knife in her hand. He said he managed to take the knife from the woman and pull her out before calling the police.
Those who live in the other rooms of the villa said they used to hear shouting and screaming from the room. The husband explained to them that his wife was influenced by djin and he used to read Holy Quran to calm her.
Maj.-Gen. Al Mansouri said the couple was staying in the country illegally.
