A water vendor, who molested a 14-year-old girl, was sentenced to three months in jail on Thursday by the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The 32-year-old Pakistani man was accused of touching and kissing the Indian girl's hand while her parents were away.
He denied the charge in court but confessed to it during the public prosecution investigation.
During the probe, he admitted that he kissed the girl's hand, touched her face, and offered her Dh100 but she turned it down. He also said he asked for her mobile number so he could call her later.
The schoolgirl said the worker came to their house around 4pm.
"I opened the door for him as I knew he was the worker who always delivered water to us. He insisted on fixing the water gallon on the cooler and asked for a glass of water."
He then grabbed her hand and kissed it, the girl said. And when she pulled it away, he tried to touch her again.
"I felt scared and told him to leave as he began looking at me in a strange way."
He told her that her parents hadn't paid for the water yet. Then he said he could settle it for them in exchange for "a little gift", pointing at his lips, the girl recalled.
He left after she yelled at him.
She called her mother right away and told her about the incident.
The vendor has the right to appeal the ruling within 15 days from Thursday.
