A 31-year-old Asian visitor has been referred to the criminal court on the charge of smuggling into the country more than 500gm of heroin in his gut while he was finalising the customs procedures to enter the country.

The court records date back to last November when the customs officers suspected M.W.K, who arrived from an Asian country, after they spotted him looking confused. The officer kept observing him till he reached the inspection and search point.

When he was asked about the contents in his luggage, he said they were mere personal belongings and clothes.

The officers screened the luggage of the suspect as well as frisked him physically, but found nothing. Not completely satisfied with the results, he was subjected to a body scan.

During the screening, the officers saw strange materials in the man’s gut. On being questioned about the nature of the material found in his body, the traveler broke down and admitted that he swallowed 72 capsules containing pure heroin powder.

The accused claimed that he was persuaded by some people in his home country to deliver the narcotics to another compatriot man, whom he would have met at a hotel in Dubai and who was supposed to give him Dh50,000 in exchange.

The suspect was detained and the heroin capsules were extracted from him. The total heroin weighed 544.99 grams.
