A three-member gang and a jeweller is facing trial in a Dubai court on charges of robbing a villa in Jumeirah.
According to the documents of the Dubai Public Prosecution, the incident had occurred on February 17, 2020 when the gang members, including two men of Asian origin and an African, hatched a plot to rob a villa since they had prior information that the occupant was not there at night.
They used a knife to commit the burglary and a rented car was used to decamp from the scene of the crime.
The African man, 36, had rented the car, while the Asians, aged between 30 and 35 years, broke into the villa and emptied out the cash and jewellery from a metal safe.
The victim, who was travelling abroad, found out about the burglary after he returned to Dubai. He lost Dh313,285.2 in cash and jewellery worth around Dh600,000.
The police ascertained the identity of the accused after reviewing the closed-circuit TV (CCTV) footage that was installed in the villa.
The three accused and a jeweller, who agreed to buy the stolen jewellery, have been arrested.
The Criminal Court in Dubai will conduct the trial.
