Two kids among 5 killed in Sharjah road accident

Five people, including a 30-year-old Emirati woman, her two young daughters and two housemaids, were killed in a horrific crash when the four-wheel drive they were travelling in collided with a Sharjah Municipality vehicle.

The accident happened when the four-wheel drive, travelling at speed, crashed into the municipality vehicle, and overturned several times at 11pm on Thursday.

The two daughters were just five and 13 years old. The husband of the Emirati woman, who was driving the vehicle, and their two sons, aged 4 and 9, sustained serious injuries. The man received spinal injuries and fractures, while the boys also sustained serious injuries and are fighting for their lives in hospital.

According to sources, the accident happened on Sharjah’s Maliha Road. The Emirati woman, her daughters and two Asian maids died on the spot.

Al Qasimi Hospital executive director Safia Al Khajah said she understood the family were on their way to Sharjah’s Maliha area to meet relatives.

Ambulances, police patrols and traffic experts reached the site and shifted the bodies to the morgue, while both the boys were taken to Al Dhaid Hospital and the father was shifted to Al Qasimi Hospital.
