The Sharjah Criminal Court heard the case of three Asians who were charged with smuggling drugs.
A police official testified before the presiding judge Mahmood Abubakr that the accused were arrested after verified information by the anti-narcotics department that they possessed narcotic substances and were promoting them.
The police arrested the first accused in an ambush and he admitted that he kept the drugs in his house. The officials then raided his house and found large amounts of crystal meth.
The first accused said he received the narcotics from a man who lived outside the UAE, in an Asian country, and that he does not know him personally. He said that he received a call from the second accused who gave him instructions to receive the drugs.
The second accused asked him to receive the drug delivery near a grocery in Al Khan area, holding a water bottle, as a sign to recognise each other.
When the police officers arrested the second accused, he said he received the drugs from a third person and gave his name and address. The third accused, after his arrest, said he received the narcotics from an unknown person who promised him money after his return to the country as he was on visit visa.
When the court confronted the three defendants, they confirmed the testimony of the witness but said they possessed the drugs for their personal use and that it was not meant for promotion. The judge adjourned the court until March 12.

Three arrested for promoting heroin

In a second drug case, the judiciary at the Sharjah Criminal Court charged three men with the possession and promotion of narcotic substances.
A police official, who works in the anti-narcotic department of the Dubai Police, said he participated in the arrest of the accused after the police received information that the first accused possessed various types of drugs and was promoting them. The police raided his house and arrested him along with two others present. They found heroin stuffed in capsules and in powder form along with a device for weighing the drug.
During the police interrogation, the first accused said he was promoting drugs with the help of the other two defendants. The second and third accused said they were not promoting drugs and they possessed it for their personal use.
The case was adjourned to February 28.
