Speaking to Khaleej Times, Col Salim Al Khayal, Director of the Anti Narcotic section at the Sharjah Police said the dhow arrived on Friday morning at the Sharjah Creek from Iran with a crew comprising seven Iranians. During a search, the police found the large quantity of tramadol tablets and other drugs which were already manufactured and ready to be sold here in the country. The pills were kept in well-secured plastic containers and packed in fruits boxes.

Inspectors at the creek suspecting foul play, opened the fruit boxes one by one and found the drugs hidden in them. The crew confessed their crime and were referred to public persecution on charges of smuggling drugs to the country.

Col Al Khayal praised the efforts of the anti narcotic police officials, coastal guards and the army force which participated in foiling the smuggling operation.
