The Iranian teacher, 37, was arrested at the Dubai International Airport in March and 20.8 grams of opium was seized from him.
Also the narcotics officers seized from him seven pills of methadone and 36 pills of Alprazolam, which were hidden in his baggage.
An Emirati inspector at the airport said that he was on duty in the evening of that day when the defendant, coming from Iran, passed his baggage on the automatic scanning. The inspector said during the prosecution investigation that the defendant raised his suspicions.
When he searched the defendant’s hand bag, a small bag containing pills was found. Further personal search of the accused led to finding plastic rolls containing opium hidden in his shoes.
During the investigation, the accused admitted that he smuggled the narcotics claiming it was for his personal use.
