The Iraqi student is believed to have stabbed the Lebanese student three times, including near the heart, after he allegedly verbally abused his mother. He is charged with attempt to murder in the Court of First Instance.

The Lebanese student told the prosecutor that the incident happened in an evening in February when he was at an amusement hall in Muraqqabat. He and the defendant had an altercation in which the complainant verbally abused the defendant’s mother.

The defendant then punched him on the face and the two started fighting. The customers present at the hall at the time contained the fight.

The defendant went outside and after a few minutes he sent his friend after the complainant. The defendant claimed that he wanted to settle the dispute. The two walked for a short distance and the defendant asked him why he abused his mother. The complainant answered that he did it because the defendant had verbally abused his mother earlier.

Suddenly, the defendant took a knife out of his pocket and stabbed the complainant twice in his abdomen and near his heart. As the complainant tried to walk away, he stabbed him in his right arm. The defendant then fled the scene.

The youths who witnessed the fight called the ambulance and the complainant was rushed to the hospital.

A Syrian student said during the investigation that the stabbing followed an altercation and a physical fight between the two. He heard the defendant asking the complainant to go out to the nearby parking lot to settle the dispute. The witness shortly after saw the complainant lying injured on the ground.

He did not know the kind of sharp weapon the defendant used in the attack. He and another Lebanese student who happened to be there called the police.

A police lieutenant said that the defendant voluntarily admitted to him that he stabbed the complainant. He also led him to the supermarket in Port Saeed area where he had purchased the knife and to the crime scene where he stabbed the complainant. The lieutenant could not find the knife in the dumpster where the defendant had thrown it following the attack.

According to the forensic report of the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence, the stab the complainant received in his chest and abdomen was deep and could have been fatal had he not received the necessary treatment on time.
