Dubai — A 21-year-old Emirati student was sentenced to life imprisonment on Sunday for possessing and selling tramadol pills.
The court case goes back to May this year when the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Dubai Police was tipped off that the student possessed psychotropic pills and he was planning to sell them for Dh600.
A police undercover agent posed as a buyer and agreed with the accused to sell him the pills. In the beginning, the two parties agreed to meet in Karama for the deal, but later the accused changed the venue to Frij Al Murar.
The sleuth and other police officers moved to the place. When the accused saw the undercover agent’s car, he approached him and gave him three strips of tramadol (30 pills). The undercover agent then paid the youth Dh600, which was agreed on.
Suddenly, the police officers encircled the accused and arrested him. On searching him, the officers found 70 more tramadol pills in his possession.
He was referred to the Public Prosecution, which charged him with possessing and trafficking in psychotropic tablets. The court found him guilty and sentenced him to life in prison.
