A team from the fire stations of Samnan and Moweilah were dispatched as soon as it came to our attention, said Colonel Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Sharjah Civil Defence.

Col Al Suwaidi said they were able to bring the fire, ‘quickly under control,’ and prevent it from spreading to nearby warehouses. No casualties or injuries were reported. He pointed out that the fire broke out at about 10am and that assistance was called in from Dubai and Ajman, who supplied Sharjah Civil Defence with fire trucks.

“The materials contained in the warehouse, such as the oils and scrap, accelerated the flames but we managed to get there in time and extinguished the fire within two hours,” said Col Al Suwaidi.

He added that a cooling process was carried out for the rest of the day, and that a team from the Forensic Laboratory at Sharjah Police are investigating the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
