The Sharjah Police ridiculed rumours about an Asian gang that kidnap children from their homes in the absence of parents in Khor Fakkan area.  The rumours circulated in social media created panic among the residents of Khor Fakkan and neighbouring areas.
The police received many complaints from residents of the area saying they are very scared to leave their children at home because of the rumours. They demanded the police to take serious action to ensure security in the area.
Brigadier Saif Al Zari Shamsi, Chief of Sharjah Police, said that the rumours were `spread by those who intend to create panic among residents and affect the stability and peace in the area." He asserted that the police had received no complaints regarding kidnapping of children at any police station in the eastern region.
Since the rumours spread panic among the residents, the Criminal Investigation Department teams launched intensified investigation which confirmed that no such kind of crime had happened in the area.
The police found that the rumours originated from the increase in the number of beggars at homes during the Eid days. The beggars were asking about the whereabouts of residents, which caused residents to panic thinking that they were planning to kidnap children.
