Sharjah acts tough against illegals, phone credits
The Sharjah Municipality has intensified its inspection campaigns targeting unauthorised persons selling mobile phone credit, infiltrators and illegal residents in various parts of the emirate.
Sultan Al Mualla, Director-General of the Sharjah Municipality, on Tuesday said that it has been noticed that large number of vendors are selling mobile phone credits in the city, posing a danger to the security of the society.
The municipality, in coordination and cooperation with all concerned departments including police, labour office and immigration department, is working hard to end this phenomenon.
He pointed out that the municipality has been taking measures to maintain hygiene and cleanliness of the city and had banned the mobile phone credit sale in public places and entertainment areas. The municipality has also taken action against bachelors’ accommodation in residential areas and provided them with alternative accommodations in industrial and commercial areas to ensure safety and peace for the families.
The municipality teams will also crackdown on people who sleep on pavements, in parks and other public areas, as well as illegal car cleaners working near malls and shopping centres.
Despite the municipality’s continuous efforts to maintain the beauty of the emirate, it was found that a number of workers continued to sleep in public places and litter the areas even though there are dozens of waste bins nearby. He noted that this lack of respect towards the environment ultimately increases the burden on the municipality to keep the city clean.
“We aim to implement a new set of rules that will regulate the practice of car cleaning in public parking spaces, so that workers will only be able to clean cars if they are registered with a licensed company, who are authorised to carry out such services.”
The municipality will also implement a new set of rules to prohibit street vendors from operating in industrial areas, traffic lights and other commercial areas. He noted that the municipality is ready to provide a temporary shelter for those caught carrying out the illegal activities until the necessary legal procedures are over.
The municipality will hold periodical meeting with concerned departments to follow up the campaign to ensure implementation of the rules and regulations.
