A restaurant manager and his assistant, both Lebanese, were cleared of molesting and abusing a cook by the Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

E.M., 24, and S.K., 22, had been on trial on the charges of molesting and abusing the Pakistani cook on several occasions in the restaurant located in a shopping mall in Al Rashidiya area. The cook claimed he was reluctant to complain against them for fear of losing his job. The court cleared them of the charge for lack of evidence.

The cook, 20, claimed that both the defendants used to abuse and make fun of him since he started working in the restaurant about nine months back.

He claimed that S.K. would come to the kitchen and laugh as she slapped him all over his body. “E.M. would sometimes punch me on my head and other times hit me with a fork or a plate. Once, S.K. hit me with a kitchen knife on my behind. Both of them used to kick me,” he alleged.

The cook reported the incident on January 3. He said that both the accused enjoyed their time as they punched him several times on that day. He suffered bruises on his head, injured his shoulder and was in pain because of the continuous abuse. He also alleged that the pair would very often show him the middle finger in front of others at the restaurant. He claimed that in two incidents at least, the pair ripped off his clothes and underwear in their office.

He said he endured their bad treatment as much as he could because they were in charge of the restaurant and he did not want to be sacked. -mary@khaleejtimes.com
