A labourer allegedly molested a 7-year-old girl while giving her private lessons in memorising the Holy Quran, a court heard on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Bangladeshi accused is believed to have taken advantage of the victim’s young age to molest her when he was alone with her during the private lesson.
He admitted to a molestation charge in the Court of First Instance.
The Pakistani victim informed her father about the alleged molestation after he left their home.
The girl’s father, a 37-year-old manager, said that on May 10, his 5-year-old son told him that the teacher was “a bad man”.
“My daughter also told me that she no longer wanted to take lessons from him. She said he touched her and then exposed himself,” he said.
After the father reportedly spotted dirty tissues under the table, he reported the accused to the police.
The defendant also admitted in the prosecution investigation to having molested the victim 10 days before the reported incident.
The court will give its verdict on June 29.
