Two men, accused of assaulting a compatriot to death during a fight involving in total 7 persons, were sentenced to 3 years in jail by the Court of First Instance on Monday.
The two Pakistanis (aged 32, 23) were accused of beating the victim with one or more solid objects on the head, causing him severe skull fractures and brain damage.
The fight involved five other Pakistanis.
The 5 men were sentenced to 1 year in jail each and four of them were ordered to pay each Dh 1,000 worth of fines on physical assault and verbal abuse charges.
The police moved to the crime scene at the trucks stop on Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi. No relevant evidence could be lifted off a bat and two metallic tools seized from the place.
All the 7 men (aged between 19 and 45) pleaded not guilty to the charges in court in August, last year. They will all be deported after serving their jail terms as per the court's order.
The incident was reported to Al Barsha police on April 24, 2016.The forensic expert, who examined the victim, said that his body bore multiple injuries mainly in the head, brain and chest in addition to skull fractures.
She said the death was caused by a blunt force trauma inflicted twice at least on the head with one or more solid objects. She could not determine, however, what was the tool used to beat the victim with.
Those injuries caused an internal bleeding, putting pressure on the brain and resulting in failure of the heart and breathing functions.
