Man who jumped to death was mentally ill

SHARJAH — The Sharjah Police confirmed that the 40-year-old Yemeni man, who jumped from the 12th floor of a building, was mentally ill.

Samir Salih fell from the 12th floor of Abu Jumaizah building in Al Majaz area on April 12.

The police launched an investigation and interrogated members of his family including a sister, three brothers and parents.

They informed the police that Samir was mentally ill and that he was not employed for a long time.

They said that he had visited a doctor recently who had put him on medication which he was taking regularly until the day before his death. His parents added that Salih had refused to eat on the day he committed suicide.

A passerby had informed the police operations room at 7pm about the incident. The police said that they found the man dead when they arrived at the scene. The man was living with his parents and siblings.
