An Arab man stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court on charges of escaping from police detention.
As per court records, the defendant was facing charges of resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, consuming alcohol, and beating up a nightclub owner. The defendant admitted to fleeing after being detained by the cops. "I was scared because of the charges I was facing in another lawsuit."
He added that he was under the influence of alcohol. "I was not aware of what I was doing," he told the court. However, the man denied insulting or assaulting the nightclub owner and staffers. "I was only spending a night with friends at the nightclub," he said, denying any assault on the police officer who was trying to detain him.
The court ordered adjournment of the case for checking the surveillance camera footage.
