A man has gone on trial for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old boy in a mosque after spotting him alone.
The Court of First Instance was told the 29-year-old Pakistani man stared at the French boy maliciously before sitting by his side and kissing him on the cheek. He then took him away to the washroom where he grabbed his hands, forced him against a wall and snatched a kiss from him.
According to public prosecution records, the incident took place on April 13 in a mosque in Jumeirah.
"We were patrolling the area when we were alerted about some problem in a mosque. The boy's mother, a French of Arab origin, later told us that her son got molested by a worker while she was praying at women's musallah. She said they were on tourist visas and would leave the country soon. But she wanted to complain against the worker to protect other children form such molesters," a police corporal said.
"The boy told us the man kissed him outside the ablution room and then took him inside where he forced him against a wall and kissed him again against his will."
The police checked the surveillance cameras which caught the worker looking at the boy weirdly before leading him to the ablution room.
The corporal said the accused's kisses were not a show of affection. "The way he was staring at the boy was not good or a reflection of good intentions."
Still photos taken from outside the mosque show the boy and the defendant walking to the ablution room and shortly later the accused rushing to take his helmet and shoes and leaving the place quickly before the boy's mother arrived.
The man was arrested about three days later by the CID.
