R.S. was using a gun to perform the Yola local dance during a wedding ceremony. One of the victims was his brother.

A second accused identified as S.R. was sentenced to one month in prison and given a fine of Dh16,000 after the court charged him with holding and possessing an unlicensed firearm in addition to concealing a weapon used in the crime. The court also ordered the firearms seized in the wedding be confiscated.

The hearing was presided over by Chief Judge Ali bin Jamooh and was attended by counselor Salem Al Khadeem and court secretary Salem Al Dhanhani.

In March this year, a UAE national, S.A, hosted a dinner at the mountainous Wum locality in Dibba, Fujairah, to celebrate his daughter’s marriage. During the ceremony, S.A’s son, R.S. went to perform a Yola dance show in front of attendees and used an unlicensed gun.

As the gun was not set to safety lock, some bullets were accidently discharged from the gun. An Emirati guest, S.H, was killed on the spot while the brother of the accused and his cousin were critically injured. R.S’s brother succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

The police rushed to the scene and detained the accused. While interrogation, R.S. spoke about his accomplice, S.R. who hid the weapon used in the crime. He too was arrested.
