Public prosecution records show the incident took place on April 19 at a mall gate and could have been fatal had the victim not been rushed to hospital on time. It was reported at Bur Dubai police station. The defendant has been detained since then.
The 17-year-old victim, an Emirati student, said that around 1pm on April 19, he was with his friend at a mall. "A man, whom we don't know, came to us and told us to go along to a gate. There we saw a group of about six men. One of them asked me which school I attended. My friend pulled me away to avoid problems."
However, one of the other men called him to talk to him aside while the others left.
"Three defendants stayed and they pushed me several times. The accused man then brandished a knife and stabbed me in the waist. I ran away and fainted in the hallway leading to a nearby hotel. I was then taken to hospital," the victim recounted during the prosecution investigation. According to the forensic report, the stabbing could have killed the victim.
