An Emirati lured his longtime friend to his parents' camel farm to have dinner with his brothers' girlfriends but then sexually assaulted her, a court was told.
According to prosecution records, the 28-year-old man, who is a public officer, invited the Italian woman to accompany him to his villa in Jebel Ali but it turned out that none was there. He took advantage that none was around to force himself on her.
He denied a sexual assault charge in the Court of First Instance on Wednesday.
His defense lawyer argued that the complainant was seeking to blackmail his client.
The complainant, 23, said she worked at the Duty Free in the Dubai International Airport and that was how she and the accused became friends.
He picked her up on May 28 after she sent him her location. "He invited me to dinner at his villa saying his brothers' girlfriends would also be there. He drove to a camel farm and we entered a villa," she recounted.
Every time she would ask him about his brothers he would pretend to be talking on the phone and then tell her they were on the way.
"He took my phone and told me to follow him to the bedroom as he wanted to show it to me. Then suddenly he pulled me inside by the hand and tried to calm me down saying he would not do anything. He let me go outside after about 20 minutes".
At 3:40 am, he dragged her by force to the bedroom where he sexually assaulted her, she claimed.
When she ran outside the villa and tried to ask some people to call the police she was advised to go back inside. "The accused came after me and pulled my by the hair saying he would not be responsible if something bad happened to me," she said.
He dropped her later at her place. She and her friend went to the Jebel Ali police station where she lodged a complaint.
"Around 11 pm, I visited her and found she was not well. She looked sad and shocked. There were bruises on her hands. I took her to a hospital in Abu Dhabi but we were told to file a complaint in Dubai," her 33-year-old Moroccan friend told the prosecutor.
The forensic report showed the woman was sexually assaulted and his DNA traces were found under her fingernails.
The accused admitted to the police and during the public prosecution investigation that he took the woman to his villa. However, he denied having sexually or physically assaulted her.
The court adjourned the hearing to October 12.
