The cyber crime department of the Dubai Police have arrested an Asian who promoted child pornography on his social media page.
The electronics patrols who came across the suspect during their monitoring of websites put him under surveillance and arrested him.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Manouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for criminal investigation, said the electronic patrols have referred the suspect to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
Major Salem Salmeen, deputy director of cyber crime department, said: "We monitor the social media to protect community members from those who spread evil and commit crimes."
He added that experts in the department monitored contents of the suspect's account and found child pornography and other indecent posts on his page.
The police set a trap and arrested him and as he confessed to the crime, he was referred to the legal authorities, he said.
The electronic patrols monitor various websites to catch people who misuse of technologies to attract children and youth.
