A Pakistani man, who murdered his wife following a drunken brawl and then dumped her body in a remote location in Ras Al Khaimah, has been sentenced to life in prison by the Court of First Instance on Sunday.
The court ordered that he be deported after completing his time in prison.
The incident happened on January 28, 2010, in a shared villa in Hamdan area in Al Muraqqabat. The 40-year-old unemployed accused stabbed his wife in her abdomen and fled to Pakistan after he dumped the body in RAK.
He left his infant daughter under the care of his neighbours, who resided in the same villa, telling them he would take her back after 10 days. But he never showed up.
He earlier denied a murder charge in court and claimed that the deceased stabbed herself while drunk. “She came back from outside around 1.15am and was drunk. She questioned me about my affairs with other women, which I denied. She brought a knife and wanted to stab my baby girl, but I pushed her away from my daughter.”
He did not try to help her or call for ambulance as he feared being implicated in the case, he claimed. She succumbed to her injuries shortly later.
But he admitted that he bought a bag in which he put her body and dumped it in a remote location “under some trees” in RAK.
The defendant’s brother said the accused arrived in Pakistan without any prior notice. “He said in front of my family that he killed his wife in Dubai after he got drunk and had a fight with her.”
The defendant’s neighbour told the investigators that the accused went to his room on January 28, 2010. “He asked me if I could take care of his daughter. He was crying and looked very exhausted. He told me that he was depressed as his wife had left their house after stealing all his money.”
The forensic expert said the cause of death was severe bleeding.
The verdict can be appealed within 15 days.
