The Sharjah Criminal Court has charged an Asian man with assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest.
According to court records, the man was wanted in Abu Dhabi over beautification of sin.
The Sharjah Police officers stopped him to present his ID and when they checked it, they found he was wanted after a court in Abu Dhabi sentenced him for being with a woman, who is not related to him, in a closed place.
When the police tried to take him to custody, he resisted the arrest and assaulted a policeman.
During the court hearing, the accused pleaded not guilty. He said he was not a fugitive as he had filed an appeal to the Abu Dhabi court and is waiting for a verdict. The court has adjourned the case to September 23 to hear the witnesses.
