A 30-year-old Filipina housemaid faced trial on the charge of stealing Dh150,000 in cash and Dh10,000 worth of jewellery from her sponsor's villa.
The maid allegedly planned the theft with the help of a 32-year-old Pakistani man she was having an illicit relation with. She has been charged in the Court of First Instance with helping and abetting her partner intrude into the employer's villa in Al Warqa, Al Rashidiyah.
The pair has been charged also with having sex out of the wedlock. Her accomplice is accused of infiltrating into the country and coming back illegally despite a ban order against him. The two accused were arrested on March 8 and 9.
The two admitted during the investigation they were in a relation and planned to steal from the sponsor as they were both having financial problems.
"On March 1, she let her accomplice stay overnight in her room until 6am. When her employer and his children left the house in the morning, the maid led her partner to the villa owner's bedroom where he stole a safe after wrapping it with a garbage bag," a police lieutenant quoted the maid as admitting. The safe contained Dh150,000 and important personal and family documents.
The maid stole a bag containing jewellery worth Dh10,000.
They fled the house in a taxi and she stepped off in Satwa where her accomplice had rented a room for her. He went to Jumeirah where he broke the safe pen, took Dh150,000 in cash from it and then threw the safe in a bin.
The male accused admitted during the questioning to having wired Dh100,000 to his family back home and spent the remaining amount on his needs. The jewellery was recovered from his place in Al Qusais. The maid claimed her accomplice gave her Dh200 only.
