The duo was referred to the public prosecution. They stood trial in the criminal court which sentenced them to three months in prison, and slapped a fine of Dh2,000 followed by deportation.
A witness from Dubai Police said that he received information that a 25-year-old African man was trying to sell a gold necklace without any receipt or proof that he owned it. Acting on the tip-off, the police swung into action and arrested the man, who spilled the beans during the investigations.
Interestingly, the elderly man was unaware of the theft till he was told so by the cops.
