A maid, who put the life of a 10-month- old baby in harm's way after running away and leaving him alone at home, will be jailed for 3 months and deported, the Court of First Instance has ruled.
According to prosecution records, the complaint was filed on November 1, 2011, at Al Barsha police station by the baby's mother.

The 33-year-old Egyptian housewife said she left her baby with the Indonesian maid, aged 30, at home around 2 pm to pick up her other son from school.

"I came back about one hour later but I did not find the maid. The food was being left to be cooked on the stove. I checked on my baby and found him sleeping. The maid was not there and I found then that she took all her stuff," the complainant said.

The housewife added that a golden ring worth Dh 2,570, and 5,000 Egyptian pounds and 200 Euros in cash, in addition to a pair of sports shoes were all missing.

She called the police. "I don't care about what she stole as much as I am upset because she left my baby by himself. He could have hurt himself while unattended. He could have left his bed and crawled towards the kitchen and hurt himself in any accident there," she told the prosecutor.

The detained maid pleaded guilty earlier to charges of theft and putting a baby's life in danger.
