Dubai - A 37-year-old jobless Emirati man faced charges in court on Sunday for attempting to rape a tourist by locking her up inside a house.

The incident allegedly happened on January 18 in Al Muraqqabat. The Emirati man, identified as A.B., has been charged in the Court of First Instance with  false imprisonment, attempted rape, consuming alcohol without a licence, physical assault and making a criminal threat.

A.B allegedly hid the key of the room where he held captive the Kyrgyzstani tourist, against her will, and then told her to drink alcohol before he tried to force himself on her. The court also heard he had physically assaulted her and burnt her tummy with a hookah charcoal. The woman said during the investigation that she met an acquaintance from Uz     bekistan around 2am at a hotel in Bur Dubai.

“He was with the accused and was the latter’s friend. He asked me to accompany them to the defendant’s house”. The house was partitioned in several rooms.  “We entered in a room and shortly my friend left the place saying he would be coming back but did not”.

She was left alone with A.B who then immediately locked the door up and hid the key. He was drinking alcohol and made her drink too. He pushed her to the bed and tried to rape her but in vain. Then he picked a charcoal piece from the hookah and burnt her tummy. “He told me I would be his wife for one week and then would kill me and dispose of my body in a way that none would find it,” she told the prosecutor.

A.B., whom she described as very drunk then, fell asleep and she slept too.  When she woke up, she found the phone and the battery in the refrigerator.

She then called the police.

A police lieutenant said that they went to the house in Al Muraqqabat after receiving the call. With a prosecution warrant, they raided the house. The defendant was found heavily intoxicated.

The woman was found with different marks of injury on her body and bleeding from her front head. A.B. reportedly admitted in the investigation to charges of assault and consuming alcohol.
