The Traffic Court also slapped the man, a 25-year-old Asian employee, Dh500 worth of fine. The case dates back to the end of March when the accused ran into a sign board in Al Quoz.

It was confirmed that he had consumed alcohol.

The accident report showed that he lost control of the wheel at a roundabout. After hitting the sign board, the man ran away leaving the car at the spot. He, however, removed the car’s registration number and carried it with him.

He was arrested shortly later at his place and was referred to the Traffic Prosecution. The prosecution referred the accused to the traffic court after listening to his statement and reviewing the accident report.

It recommended that the accused be jailed, his driving licence be suspended and he be fined as per the Federal Traffic Law for using alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol, damaging public property, and fleeing an accident scene.

The accused was convicted after pleading guilty to the charges in the prosecution investigation and court.
