Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation of the Dubai Police, said that the gang was specialised in theft of car batteries and electrical cables from under-construction buildings.
It also used to steal home appliances from empty houses. After complaints from various residents, the CID teams have analysed a series of thefts where thieves used the same methods in different areas.
Al Mansouri said that the CID teams set a trap and arrested the four suspects in their early thirties red-handed while stealing a car battery. He said that one of the suspects infiltrated to the country and three others were jobless though they had resident visas.
During the police interrogation, they confessed to the crime and said that they conducted the thefts in the night time and early morning targeting cars which parked in far places or under-construction buildings. They also said that they sold majority of the stolen items. The suspects also divulged about some thefts which were not yet reported, totalling the number of thefts to 76.
The suspects were referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution. Al Mansouri called on owners of newly built or under-construction buildings to appoint guards or taking preventive measures to prevent theft of electric cables.
