Fire in 12-storey building put out

The civil defence and rapid intervention teams extinguished a fire, which erupted in a 12-storey building on Thursday at 2am at the Airport Road in Abu Dhabi.

Captain Abdullah Hamad Al Tamimi, head of the customer service and public relations section at the Directorate of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, said the incident was triggered by the burning of plastic material stored in the basement.

He added that as soon as the civil defence teams received the report, they rushed to the scene and doused the fire. Captain Abdullah said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident, and stressed the need for adhering to safety measures during the construction phases.

He has warned against storing building material in a haphazard manner so as to avoid fire incidents and called for provision of safety and preventive measures, as well as emergency exits.
