The court also upheld the deportation order against the two defendants, both Iranians.

According to the court records, the two accused, both on business visas, and another compatriot man who is at large kidnapped the British woman after intercepting the cab she was in on July 6 last year. They drove off with the woman after paying the taxi driver Dh100. They claimed to the driver they knew her and would drop her at her place.

The victim, a 28-year-old executive manager, told the prosecutor that she became so drunk that night after sipping three glasses of wine at a night club in Bur Dubai that she blacked out and fell asleep only to wake up in a dark room and find herself being gang-raped and sexually assaulted by the accused and another man. The latter was also filming the rape.

They took turns assaulting her several times. They left her in terrible pain. In the morning, she took a cab and went to her flat in the Meadows where she informed her roommate that she was raped.

The victim’s roommate, a 26-year-old French training manager, testified that the victim came back about 8.30am looking terrified and tense. She told her that she was raped and bleeding. They went together to the police station and reported the rape.

The Pakistani cab driver confirmed that the woman was very drunk when a car stopped and two men, the defendants, came to him and claimed they knew her. They paid him Dh100 and drove away with her.

A policeman said that they could track down the cab through the hotel CCTV footage.

The police could identify the defendants through the plate number of their car and the descriptions given by the driver.

Some of the victim’s belongings including her underwear were found in their flat in Naif area.

The verdict can be appealed within 30 days at the Court of Cassation. — mary@khaleejtimes.com
