A 34-year-old expat was charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday after he sexually assaulted a woman at his flat.
According to public prosecution records, the Pakistani man invited the Filipina to his flat in Jumeirah Village Circle on the pretext of offering her a job. He consumed alcohol before he took off her clothes by force and tried to force her to perform a sex act on him. The incident took place on June 9 and was reported at Al Barsha police station.
During prosecution investigation, the 36-year-old complainant, a jobless, said that she had met the defendant online while she was looking for a job. "He offered me a job as a broker at his real estate company. He then called me for an interview at his office."
When she went for the interview, she found the office to be a residential flat in Jumeriah Village.
"I was surprised by him bringing liquor drinks. He said he was used to drink," she recalled.
As she felt scared, she tried to leave but he would not let her. The man assaulted her and caused her hand and back injuries. He forced her inside his bedroom where he tried to rape her in vain. However, she could call the police after she ran to the bathroom.
The woman managed to run out of the flat and waited with the security guard for the police.
She told the prosecutor that she drank a little liquor with the accused on the incident day.
A policeman told the prosecutor he saw the complainant crying at the reception of the building. She had wrist and shoulder injuries. When apprehended and taken into custody, the defendant denied having tried to sexually assault the woman or injuring her.
The forensic report showed that the complainant was left with hand and arm scratches as well as bruises after the assault. She also had a bite mark on her upper back.
Both have been referred to the Court of Misdemeanors on the charge of consuming alcohol without a permit. The man was also charged with physically assaulting her.
He has been placed in detention.
The trial has been adjourned to October 1.
