A tourist, who barged into a hotel room and sexually harassed a female guest, has been ordered jailed for three months to be followed by deportation.
The Court of First Instance earlier heard that on August 28, the 21-year-old Saudi man was drunk when he spotted the complainant and another woman walking inside their room. He followed them and entered their room after pushing the door.
The court found the tourist guilty of charges of sexual harassment and trespass. It referred him to the Court of Misdemeanors on the charge of consuming liquor without a permit.
The man only admitted the alcohol charge in court.
The complainant, a 23-year-old Swedish tourist, said that the she had just returned with her friend from a supermarket. "It was around 10pm. We got inside our room and before the door shut, we were surprised by two men walking after us.
"The defendant tried to enter the room as if it were his own and said he wanted to make himself a cup of coffee. He was asking us questions like where we are from and what are we up to.
"He would not listen to us as we told him to leave but rather sat in the corridor and said he would take a shower with my other friend (the third roommate)."
He was then kicked out by the complainant (and her friend with whom she went to market) when he tried to hold and kiss her.
The man rang the bell later trying to force his way inside but the three women shut the door in his face.
They reported the incident to Al Barsha police in the morning.
The complainant's roommate, a 23-year-old Turk, said that she had just taken a shower when the two other women came back from shopping. "The accused man entered after them while the door was still open. He was with another man. He acted as if it were his own room. He said he wanted to take a shower with me when I told him to leave. My roommates pushed him outside but he rang the bell about one hour later. He tried to push the door but we managed this time to stop him from getting inside by force."
The third woman, a 25-year-old Swedish, corroborated their statements.
During the investigation, the accused admitted he was drunk when he trespassed into the women's room. He also confessed he sexually harassed one of them.
