According to a police officer, three of the suspects are Emirati, while the other two are from Comoros and Tanzania.
The suspects were found in possession of 19kg of heroin and 4kg of another banned narcotic.
After being tipped off about the suspects illegal activities, they became aware that they were promoting drugs to young addicts after smuggling the drugs into the country. Allegedly they were looking for serious buyers in a number of emirates.
The Anti-Narcotics department, in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics department of the Dubai Police launched an investigation to arrest the dealers and two suspects were initially arrested in cooperation with Ajman police. They were found in possession of 2kg of hashish in addition to 150grams of another drug.
The remaining suspects were then arrested shortly after and they led the police to the smuggled quantity they buried at a sandy area in Ajman and Sharjah.
Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police Humaid Mohammed Al Hadaidi hailed the efforts of the UAE narcotics departments in arresting the dealers. -afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
