The incident took place at a reservoir belonging to a private petroleum company in the Al Hamriya area at dawn, said Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwidi.

He said fire engines from Al Hamriya assisted by two brigades from Ajman and Umm Al Quwain Civil Defence acted promptly and rushed to the scene to get the flames under control.

The fire was successfully contained before it spread to the nearby petroleum reservoirs.

At 10.10am, a second fire was reported at two warehouses in Sharjah Industrial Area 3. Wood stored inside were destroyed.

Fire engines from Dubai Civil Defence were called to help Sharjah firefighters extinguish the flames. “No casualties have been reported in both fire incidents,” Brig. Al Suwidi said. The criminal forensic experts are investigating to find out the reasons behind both fires. news@khaleejtimes.com
