Eating out, poor hand hygiene and erratic weather may be among causes, say medics
Dubai - A 37-year-old man stood trial on Wednesday on charges of secretly filming his female roommates with a hidden camera in the bathroom and bedroom of their shared accommodation.
The Filipino, identified as J.R., who is a designer, was caught by his two roommates on November 7 last year before he could film them at their flat in Jebel Ali.
In the Court of First Instance on Wednesday, he was charged with molestation and breaching women’s modesty.
The defendant reportedly admitted in the public prosecution investigation to have fixed a hidden camera in the shape of a clothes hanger on the bathroom’s door. He reportedly admitted he fixed it on September 28 last year.
When he was caught, J.R. claimed that the camera was broken and could not take pictures.
He was arrested the following day after officers at Jebel Ali police station summoned him for questioning.
He reportedly admitted to the police he hid the camera in the bedroom while his roommate was taking a shower. He also reportedly admitted he filmed her as she got dressed.
A Filipina coordinator, 34, said she and her roommate found the camera fixed on their bathroom’s door. “We removed it, but could not find any memory card in it. We took it to the police.”
When she returned to the flat, she confronted J.R. with the camera.
J.R. admitted to the police that he filmed the clips stored in a memory card the police seized. He said he wanted to please himself while watching his roommates.
A verdict will be pronounced on July 8. -mary@khaleejtimes.com
