The court ordered that the defendant, aged 24, be deported after serving his jail term.

The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days at the Court of Appeal. The accused allegedly groped the Filipina woman and then pushed her out of the lift of a building at Abu Hail in Muraqqabat in February.

The woman, a 27-year-old photographer, told the prosecutor that the incident happened when she was returning home after a wedding late in the night.

Around 1.30am, she and her colleague got into the lift. The defendant was already inside. She was shocked when he groped her as the lift was reaching the second floor where she lived.

She punched him on his shoulder. He grabbed her left arm and at that moment, the lift door opened on the second floor.

She told her friend to go out and call for help.

The defendant slapped her on her abdomen and her right shoulder hit the wall and she fell down.

The defendant then dragged towards the emergency exit.

By that time, her friend and other people arrived and the defendant let go of her hand and took the stairs.

She called the police and the defendant was shortly arrested outside the building.

The complainant said that she had pain in the abdomen where he hit her and shoulder which hit the wall.

The complainant’s colleague, aged 27, gave a similar statement during investigation. She said she thought the accused was drunk.
