Hospitals brace for uptick in typhoid and bacterial infections; and mosquito- and fly-borne diseases like dengue
According to the prosecution records, the 26-year-old Bangladeshi man and other runaways intercepted the Filipina as she walked towards a shop. They posed as policemen and forced her inside their car after covering gagging her. They took her to a hotel apartment in Ajman where the men took turns raping and molesting her.
They dropped her at a bus stop in Sharjah in the morning and gave her Dh50 after stealing her wallet, watch, earrings and Dh200.
The carpenter was charged by the Court of First Instance with kidnap, rape, forcible robbery and impersonating a public officer.
The incident allegedly happened in November 2010.
The woman, 33, told the prosecutor that she walked out of her workplace at a hotel apartment in Raffa around 2am and wanted to do some shopping. A car stopped in front of her and three men stepped out. They posed as police officers and asked for her labour card.
One of them showed her a card but she was not certain whether it was a police identity card.
Suddenly, another man covered her mouth and forced her inside the car. They threatened to beat her up and kill her or put her in jail if she did not let them have sex with her.
One of them slapped her until her mouth bled when she told them to take her into police custody and jail her. They blindfolded her and drove to a hotel apartment in Ajman.
They forcibly took her to a room and threatened her that they would kill her if she screamed or tried to run away. She was slapped many times and undressed. They took turns raping and molesting her.
About 7am, they drove her to a bus stop in Sharjah after stealing her belongings and money.
She wrote down the car’s registration number and reported the incident to the police.
A police lieutenant said during investigation that the defendant was arrested from Dubai International Airport and held at the Wanted Section.
He was arrested based on a police circular issued against him following the woman’s complaint.
The lieutenant interrogated the defendant who confessed that he was contacted by the two others and told about a girl who would have sex with them. They rented a hotel apartment in Ajman where the three had sex with the waitress with her consent.
According to the lab report of the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence, the DNA of the semen stains on the woman belonged to one male type only. The medical report of Rashid Hospital showed that the woman had a bruise in the back of her head. During interrogation by the prosecution, the defendant admitted to the charges.
